...because tonight's going to be a late night--the exibition game against the Hanshin Tigers doesn't start until 11:05 pm!
Here are some phrases that I thought would be useful while watching/listening to the games in case you pick up some of some of these words in the background or you just want to cheer for the Sox in another language:
banto-bunt, batta-batter, daburu pure-double play, era-error, fasuto-first baseman, fauro-foul ball, foa boru-walk, furu besu-bases loaded, furu kaunto-full count, gemu setto-game over, goro-ground out, gurobu-glove, homuran-home run, kyatcha-catcher, manrui homa-grand slam, naisu pure-nice play, sanshin-strikeout, shinpan-umpire, sutoraiku-strike, yakyu-baseball
You can find these words and more here, and if you want pronunciations of these baseball terms and others, you can scroll down to the bottom of this site.
Also, (for the first time this year!), Kevin Youkilis has updated his blog. Here are some quotes from him about Japan:
"I think people are looking forward to go see Japan. I’ve been hearing great things about the country and what it’s like to be there. I think the biggest thing right now is we want to see the culture and we want to see all the great stuff that Japan has to offer. If you go there with an open mind and you’re excited, it’s going to be good. You just have to stay positive. Hey, it’s two baseball games that count and two baseball games that could be huge down the road, so we have to go out there and not be negative and keep a positive attitude."
"It’s going to be great for Dice-K and Okajima I’m sure. You can definitely tell they’re probably going to be treated like royalty and they always tell us we’re going to be treated like royalty over there because they don’t get to see Major League games very often. I heard there’s a different kind of cheering over there, and how they go about the game. We’ll see how they react. It will be fun just to see another culture in the sport of baseball."
"It’s going to be a very eye-opening trip. The key is to try to have fun and enjoy it because it’s something you might not ever do again."
Sorry that was kind of long, but (even though he doesn't do so very frequently) when Youk posts something on his blog, it's usually pretty good and filled with some nice quotes.
I don't know about you, but now I'm ready for the shinpan (ump) to say "Pure Boru" (Play Ball)!

I watched until about the 6th or 7th inning. I was falling asleep. On MLB.tv, there was only Japanese play-by-play - it was hilarious! Buchholz could have been better, but I swear that the smaller Japanese baseball could be messing him up. A lot of throws in the dirt, you know?
I don't have MLB.tv, so I had to listen on GameDay Audio, and (somehow) I managed to stay awake for the whole game.
That must have been really funny! Sometimes when I'm bored I listen to the World Series DVDs in Spanish, (which I can understand a little bit) so I'm sure that listening in Japanese would have been even more hilarious!
Maybe you were able to stay awake because of the Red Bulls! And hey to dps. He's a great commenter over at my place.
Brittany, caffeine and I don't get along. One Diet Snapple and I'm walking on air. I usually like my feet, or at least one of them, on the ground!
