Look Out Toronto, Here Comes Josh Beckett

Yesterday's game didn't go exactly as planned...the Jays beat us 10 to 2. We had the lead for a little while, but once the Jays started scoring in the 6th, we just couldn't stop them.

This does sound vaguely familiar, though...Dice-K's first game (even though he won) was more than a little shaky, and Lester started the season with a loss. On their second games, however, both pitchers dominated to get a well-deserved win. Hopefully, this same thing will happen for Buchholz.

Kyle Snyder, who made a big contribution to yesterday's loss, was "designated for assignment to make room for Josh Beckett on the 25-man roster.
Snyder is out of options, so he cannot be sent to Triple A." You can read more about Kyle, who seemed pretty upset, here.

Now that we have all of the ugliness of yesterday's game out of the way, we can make room for today's game, which is an awesome Beckett-Halladay matchup. If anyone is going to prevent us from being swept by the Jays, it's Josh Beckett.

Blue Jay's manager John Gibbons said it best, "When those No. 1s match up, you go in anticipating a low-scoring game. We'll have two of the best going at it. I don't know if we're necessarily looking forward to facing Beckett, but it's great if you're a baseball fan."

To make it even more exciting, today's game will be broadcasted on TBS, which means everyone (or at least everyone with a TV) can and should watch it.

What a shame that Beckett couldn't prevent the sweep. When I heard during the pre-game report on Friday night that he was going to pitch today, I was kind of hoping that he would have been pegged instead to pitch for Tuesday's home opener!

PS - Kudos to the Devils for securing home-ice advantage :)

I was thinking the same thing a Sweet Caroline, I wanted Beckett on for Tuesday. That was, however, mostly because I was thinking that Detroit would be more of a challenge than Toronto. So much for that.

Thanks, Caroline!

I agree, dps. I'm really surprised that the Tigers haven't won yet, and I'm also surprised at how well the Jays played.

I guess all of these surprises are what make the game so exciting!
